Of all of the Soldiers and units stationed at Sackets Harbor, the 9th Infantry Regiment was probably the most well-known. The 9th Infantry Division and with it the 746th Tank Battalion came out of the line on 15 November to become First Army reserve. I don't know what ever prompted him to do it, but when the family offered the coat and hat to my grandfather he put them on and walked to the front window of the house and stood there for a while.
